NEWS PLAY by Madeleine Brown
"Aaron Jan’s direction is peppy and imaginative – rarely have headbands been used for such basic, efficient storytelling purposes.” – My Entertainment World

Playing to full houses at the 2019 Toronto Fringe, NEWS PLAY followed two deranged siblings as they tried to save a failing newspaper in a distorted version of Peterborough. NEWS PLAY explored who we exploit to sell stories and lead actress/playwright Madeleine Brown won an outstanding performance award from NOW Magazine.

My vision for News Play was to create a "DIY Peterborough" made of Paper Mache, where headlines were just as disposable as it's characters. The show had a made in garage feel and aesthetic, much like the community newspaper Joy, Phoebus and Art were trying to save.
