Kenny Barrett did something that has everyone worried. He wishes he could just make it through the rest of his senior year unnoticed, but that's going to be hard since he has to publicly apologize to his entire high school. A new play about a family limping out the door in the morning and coming home no matter what.

For me, growing up was listening to that song by that unknown Indie band and watching the world sync up around you.

My production of FROM UP HERE re-imagined the show through Kenny's eyes, realizing his fantasies in spectacular, surreal ways through a pair of headphones used to shut the world out. Full company dances, dirt raining from the sky and the windows of the Barret house literally coming undone was the cornerstone of my vision of this play. Feeling small in spacious suburbia was my starting metaphor, but I was really interested in amplifying the script's magical moments of connection in epic form - all the while maintaining the intimacy of the honest performances.

Produced by the University of Winnipeg's Theatre Department for their 2022-2023 season - April 4-8 2023.
