LUCKY by Marie Barlizo
Nina, a Filipina, can’t meet her parents’ expectations. An encounter with Sylvain, a former skinhead, sparks a thrilling plan that could change both their lives, but he soon realizes she may not be who she claims to be.

In my production of LUCKY, we explored the messiness of the encounter and both characters' desperate expectations of how the night should end. Inspired by wrestling and mixed martial arts fighting, we created an intimacy battle arena that characters manipulated to their advantage. We explored discoveries and play, alongside moments of simultaneous humor and brutality within the intimacy and violence, to make sure that they weren't just sequences of movement, but rather chances for both Nina and Sylvain to change their destinies.
